Happy Mothers Day!

Hi, beautiful mother!

I pray the Lord blesses you richly through your family today, that they will celebrate you for all the many ways you have deeply loved them.

But even if that doesn’t happen, I want to encourage you with this word:

You matter. All you have done for your family has not been in vain. Even if you have not been acknowledged by those you have poured your life into, God has seen you. He saw every sacrifice. Every attempt to do what is right. Every effort you made to keep the peace. Every act of love. And He has a plan, even through every mistake and every wrong turn, to work it all out for the good.

All is forgiven. TODAY is what matters. Rise up, woman of God, and LOVE. Not in your own power, but through the life-transforming power of the One who loved you first and gave His life so you and your family can LIVE. No matter what they choose today, you choose love.

And never lose hope. For the One who is the Living Hope lives within you. You are stronger than an army in His power. More lovely than all the roses through His love.

Rise up, woman of God, and be who you are … in Him.

5 Steps to Help Your Children Know Jesus

Do you think children can’t understand the gospel fully? That they’re too young to repent of their sins and choose Christ?

Don’t be that parent who hinders your children from coming to Jesus.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

As a parent, you can be the catalyst to help your children know Jesus in deep, intimate ways.

  1. The first thing you’ll want to do is cultivate an intimate relationship with Christ yourself. We recommend Delight to Be a Woman of Wonder for moms and Dare to Be a Mighty Warrior for dads. In fact, the 100 strategies for removing the barriers to oneness with Christ and others in those two books are the same, so you can study together.
  2. Put in place a daily time in the Word together with your children. You can read through the Bible a few verses at a time, as God leads, and talk about it together, or use a deep age-appropriate Bible study, like the Pure-As-Gold Seal books for children and youth available at MoreThanAConquerorBooks.com.
  3. Help your children recognize God’s voice of Truth, so they won’t be led astray by enemy lies. We recommend Listen to Me: Heart Talks with Jesus. If you need help with this yourself there’s a free guide to knowing God’s voice at MoreThanAConquerorBooks.com.
  4. There is much we can say about helping connect your children with friends who will grow together with them in the Lord rather than lead them astray, but ask God to lead you to a church with a children’s program where your child will be safe and nurtured in his/her faith.
  5. And last, listen to your child’s heart. If God is drawing that precious one to Himself, don’t be the one to stand in the way. Share the gospel in a way he/she can easily understand. We recommend pages 40-47 in 1-2-3 Walk in Step with Me for ages 8-12, and pages 47-53 of Listen to Me: Heart Talks with Jesus for ages 4-8.

A Pure-As-Gold Seal Bible study workbook for ages 8-12 packed with powerful activities to help the truth go deep in their hearts, so they can know the King who knows them, let His power change them, and let His love in them change the world around them

Go all the deeper in your walk with Christ with this Prayer Journal designed to practice what you’re learning in the 1-2-3 Walk in Step with Me Bible study workbook. Available lined or unlined (for those who like to write and draw).

Encouragement, Kingdom Culture Kids

For Our Kids Today

This is a sweet word from the Lord He asked me to share with you as I prayed for our kids here in this Kingdom Culture Parenting community….

You don’t have to be the best. You ARE the best, because the One Who is the Best at EVERYTHING is within you. And success by Heaven’s standards is not how many “A”s you get or how many people approve of all the the things you do, but only this: Did you love? Matthew 22:37-40. Are you loving God? And are you loving others? Then you are doing all I have asked you to do. So, whatever new task you take on that seems overwhelming, just ask Me, and I will help you do that. I will empower you. Philippians 4:13. Because asking Me to help you is one of the ways you love Me. And doing well at your chores and schoolwork is loving Me AND loving those around you. But you can’t love like that on your own. It’s My love that makes it easy. So, receive My love for you. Know how much you mean to Me. And then, let Me empower you to also love those around you. Okay, let’s go! Today, let Me help you triumph over that mountain of stuff you’ve got to do. Because through My love, you are more than a conqueror! Romans 8:37-38.

If you’d like to help your children draw near to God and practice inviting Him into every circumstance and difficulty all throughout the day, we highly recommend Listen to Me: Heart Talks with Jesus prayer devotional packed with questions to recognize God’s voice, questions to ask Him, and steps to healing from trauma and fear. An accompanying Listen to Me Prayer Journal (actually on sale now at Amazon for just $3.75!) helps kids process what God is teaching them through the devotional, and the Every Day with Jesus Prayer Journal diary helps them get in the habit of seeking God every morning and inviting Him to guide them throughout the day.

Happy Thanksgiving

A prayer of thankfulness and for covering our families as we celebrate together. Love you all!

Lord, we thank You for every blessing You have given us this year, and for all the ways You’ve carried us through the trials. Thank You for sending Your Son to die for us so we can live abundantly in You. Thank You for Your mercy, Your grace, Your guidance, Your love. For always being there for us, always faithful, always good. As we get together for the holidays, please, Lord, come and meet us in powerful ways. Fill our homes with Your presence, cover us with Your peace. Give us gentle, kind words to turn away wrath. Guide our conversations over meals, as we talk together, and all throughout each day. Open up opportunities for us to speak words of life to draw others closer to You, and to turn the hearts of the lost to the One and only Savior. For those who are hurting this Thanksgiving, Lord, point them out to Christians who will step in and help, pouring out Your love in such abundant measures that they will see You as You truly are and choose to follow You with all their hearts. Show us, Lord, how we can be that blessing to others. We love You, Lord. We don’t know what the future holds, or what this holiday will look like a year from now, but we know the One Who holds our future in His hands, and You, O Lord, are good.

God’s Plans for Your Thanksgiving

What is your family doing for the holidays? Will you be getting together with family for Thanksgiving?

Is there anyone you dread seeing? Or a conflict you dread stepping into?

Here’s a sweet story to encourage you…

Jennifer (not her real name), a mom who served the Lord overseas in the same country with us, came over every week for mentoring.

On this occasion, she came angry.

Her family had planned to spend Thanksgiving with another family they love, but she had just found out a certain woman she didn’t like would also be there.

“She’ll ruin it!” Jennifer vented, pacing the room with a tirade of reasons why she didn’t like Theresa.

As I put on some soft worship music in the background to help her shift her thoughts, I encouraged her to lay all her opinions and ideas about Theresa at Jesus’ feet, then ask Him how HE sees her.

A few moments later, she lifted her head, tears shining in her eyes. “She’s in so much pain. Oh, I can’t wait to just put my arms around her and tell her how much I love her, and Jesus does, too!”

What??!!!

In just a few minutes, the Lord had transformed Jennifer’s bitterness into joy, her anger into love.

The enemy had planned quite a dissension feast for Thanksgiving that year, but the Lord transformed it into one of the most beautiful Thanksgivings her family would ever know.

What would happen in your own heart if you handed all your thoughts and opinions about others at Jesus’ feet, and then asked Him how HE sees them?

This Thanksgiving, choose to love rather than be loved on, to serve rather than to be served, to have grace for those who don’t yet know the Lord and those who do but still are a work in progress. Matthew 22:37-40.

Because you’re a work in progress, too.

Let’s thank the Lord for being faithful to complete the good work He has begun in us. Philippians 1:6

“I Was Wrong. Please Forgive Me.”

Asking forgiveness is so vital to life as the body of Christ, and yet, I’ve met few Christians who do it.

Some pretend at it with a “Sorry, but YOU….!!!!!”

That’s not an apology. It’s an accusation. Excuse my language, but “Sorry but…”s are for sorry butts!

I’ve honestly met more children who ask forgiveness than Christian adults. And leaders are often even worse at admitting to wrong.

So, what holds us back from taking responsibility for the way we’ve hurt people and trying to make it right?

Pride, of course. Pride is at the heart of every conflict.

What about the conflict you’re in right now? Have you recognized your part in it and asked forgiveness yet? What’s holding you back?

Don’t let the enemy bend you to his will any longer. Be the first to step forward in love. Recognize what you’ve done wrong and ask forgiveness.

Love covers over a multitude of sins.

Rest Comes Through Surrender

Are you doing more than God has asked you to do? Or are you doing it in your own power? Because if you’re doing either of those things, you’re at risk for burnout, break down, or bursting out in anger at the ones you love.

Take time to breathe. Lay down before the Lord everything you’re busy with. Ask Him which of those He wants you to do, and which are something your own guilt, or someone or something else is driving you to do.

What has God asked you to do that you haven’t done yet?

What’s keeping you from obedience?

What are you doing that He never asked you to do?

And what are you doing in your own power?

Ask Him. Then step out in obedience.

Philippians 4:13, Proverbs 3:5-6, John 5:19, Galatians 1:10

marriage

The More You Love, the More Love Grows

“I know I have to love him. But I don’t have to like him!” my friend said one day after an argument with her husband.

He wasn’t listening.

He wasn’t treating her right.

He wasn’t helping around the house enough or spending enough time with her or the kids.

Sound familiar?

It’s easy to think you don’t like your spouse because of something he has done or failed to do. That this argument or difficult situation is all her fault. And of course, you behave accordingly. You avoid, attack, smolder, withhold, complain … all because of what your spouse failed to do for you.

But no matter what that person has or has not done to displease you, it’s your own thoughts and actions that douse the “spark” in your heart for him/her.

When you focus on what you’re not getting out of a relationship, you forget what you were created for — to know God, to feel His great love for you, to love Him back and to love others through His love, including your husband or wife.

Whether or not that person has done something wrong, you stand up and do what is right. You take that first loving step. And if you don’t know what to do or your pride fights so hard it feels impossible, then spend some time with Love Himself. Let Him help put the things in your mind and heart back in the right place.

  • Ask the Lord how He sees your spouse.
  • Ask Him what He wants you to do you to love and bless that person.
  • Then ask Him for the courage to humble yourself and obey Him so the power of His love will flow through you.

It sounds easier than it is. Until it becomes your new habit, that is. The thing with love is the more you do it, the more it grows. Then before you know it, not acting in love is what feels out of place.

How Humility Wins

Here’s an encouraging word today from a mom in our Kingdom Culture Parenting community, Tanya McKaig:

“He walked in the door last night. I could tell that he was still upset. Who could blame him? The words I had chosen the day before were cruel and unnecessary. We were both letting stress get to us and began to take out our frustrations on one another.

“As we launched back into our verbal attacks on one another, this verse came to mind:

A soft answer turns away wrath; but grievous words stir up anger. Proverbs 15:1

“I debated with myself whether I would do what I needed to do. I finally let go of my pride, stood up and wrapped my arms around him. I once again apologized for the way I’d been treating him. And I prayed aloud that this attack on our marriage and us would be stopped.

“At first, he left his arms at his side. And then slowly he put his arm around me. We ended up talking through our frustrations.

“To be honest, I’m embarrassed to post this. But I feel I need to. For one, yes I am a Christian… But I am far from perfect. Two, because marriage is hard and it’s so easy to see these posts about the beautiful moments in marriage, but not the the nitty-gritty-not-so-pretty parts.

“But above all that, that God even in my moment of selfishness and pride, did not abandon me and still spoke to my heart. He could have left me to my own devices. He could have said ‘Tanya, you screwed up! You deserve this! You figure it out!’

“But no! God in His unending mercy and Grace, still spoke His truth into my heart and showed me how to resolve this. I am still humbled to tears.”
